Synod

The Synod of our Province consists of two houses: House of Deputies and House of Bishops. The Deputies are elected clergy and lay representatives from each diocese in the Province. All bishops within the dioceses that constitute the Province are members of the House of Bishops. These two Houses come together at least once each year, twice during the year of the General Convention of the Episcopal Church. Their purpose is to carry out duties committed to by the General Convention, to set the budget for the Province, and, in general, to further the work of the church. The Synod regulates all business of the Province.
To be a Deputy, you would first be interested in the affairs of the Church outside of her / his own congregation. You may be active in diocesan groups or hold a leadership position. You like seeing a big picture of the Church and imagining possibilities. Then, you will want to talk with your own diocesan leaders, probably your bishop, about your interest and if this may be a good match for provincial leadership representing your diocese. If so, your name would then be offered at your diocesan convention for election to the Synod.
