Welcome to the Province of New England!

The Provincial Synod

The Synod of the Province consists of two houses:  House of Deputies and House of Bishops.  The Deputies are elected clergy and lay representatives, one each with alternates, from each diocese in the Province.  The Deputies from Synod report to their own diocese during conventions.  All bishops within the dioceses that constitute the Province are members of the House of Bishops.

These two Houses come together at least once each year, twice during the year of the Episcopal Church’s General Convention.    Their purpose is to carry out duties committed to by the General Convention, to set the budget for the Province, and, in general, to further the work of the church.  The Synod regulates all business of the Province.  For example, the Synod determines the yearly budget which supports the annual Conference and Convocation,  decides how to respond to a piece of legislation voted upon at General Convention, and hears reports from the various Networks and Resources in order to be familiar with their work and better support their efforts.
